Fred is a graduate of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, and is the recipient of the school’s Alumni Association Outstanding Alumni Award, in 2006.  After beginning his career in retail and commercial banking, he spent thirty years managing, owning, and operating small family business’s, and is proud to have been known as, “Chicken Sellin’ Fred McClellan”. He was a co-founder of the Birthplace of Country Music Alliance, and served as the founding president in 1994.  Under the BCMA leadership, the Virginia General Assembly, in 1995, and the United States Congress, in 1998, declared Bristol TN/VA as the official “Birthplace of Country Music”.  In 2000, the Birthplace of Country Music Alliance became an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, and also became the focus of the 2003 Smithsonian Folklife Festival, with Mali and Scotland.  Fred sold his business interests, between the years of 2006-2009, and began a new career in real estate with Callebs Realty.  He is married to Robin May.  They reside in Abingdon, and have three adult children: Jesame, Tai, & Seaton.
