Article X Section 3. Dues. The annual dues of Members shall be as follows:
(a) Designated REALTOR® Members. The annual dues of each Designated REALTOR® Member shall be in such amount as established annually by the Board of Directors plus an additional amount to be established annually by the Board of Directors times the number of real estate salespersons and licensed or certified appraisers who (l) are employed by or affiliated as independent contractors, or who are otherwise directly or indirectly licensed with such REALTOR® Member, and (2) are not REALTOR® Members of any Board/Association in the state or a state contiguous thereto or Institute Affiliate Members of the Association. In calculating the dues payable to the Association by a Designated REALTOR® Member, non-member licensees as defined in Section 3 (a) (1) and (2) of this Article shall not be included in the computation of dues if the Designated REALTOR® has paid dues based on said non-member licensees in another local Board/Association in the state or a state contiguous thereto, provided the Designated REALTOR® notifies the Association in writing of the identity of the local Board/Association to which dues have been remitted. In the case of a Designated REALTOR® Member in a firm, partnership, or corporation whose business activity is substantially all commercial, any assessments for non-member licensees shall be limited to licensees affiliated with the Designated REALTOR® (as defined in (1) and (2) of this paragraph) in the office where the Designated REALTOR® holds membership, and any other offices of the firm located within the jurisdiction of this board. * (Amended 1/01) (Amended 05/05)
Bristol TN/VA Association of REALTORS Dues
In 2015, BTVAR Dues are $150.00 per member, and this amount will be prorated monthly for new REALTORS only (A new member is defined as any individual who has not paid dues to any REALTOR association for the previous calendar year). Dues invoices are distributed October 1st and are due by December 1st for the following year.
*Payments to BTVAR are not deductible as charitable contributions. Such payments may, however, be deductible as ordinary and necessary business expenses.
RPAC “Fair Share” Contribution (optional)
Contributions are not deductive for income tax purposes. Contributions to RPAC are voluntary and are used for political purposes. The amount suggested is merely a guideline and you may contribute more or less than the suggested amount on your invoice. You may refuse to contribute without reprisal and the National Association of REALTORS or any of its state associations or local boards will not favor or disfavor any member because of the amount contributed. 70% of each contribution is used by your state PAC to support state and local political candidates. Until your state PAC reaches its RPAC goal, 30% is sent to National RPAC to support federal candidates and is charged against your limits under 2 U.S.C. 441a; after the state PAC reaches its RPAC goal it may elect to retain your entire contribution for use in supporting state and local candidates.
Tennessee Association of REALTORS Dues
In 2015, TAR dues are $105.00 per member and this amount will be prorated monthly for new REALTORS only (A new member is defined as any individual who has not paid dues to any REALTOR association for the previous calendar year). In addition to the dues, there is a $15.00 special assessment for Issues Mobilization. The assessment is an annual assessment and will not be prorated. Regardless of when a member joins during the year, they will pay the full $15.00 Assessment.
*TAR Nondeductible Dues: For 2015, with dues at $105.00 per member, $6.60 of TAR dues will be nondeductible for the member’s income tax purposes due to TAR lobbying and political activities. Please note the entire $15.00 Issues Mobilization special assessment qualifies as fully deductible.
Virginia Association of REALTORS Dues
In 2015, VAR dues are $110.00 per member and this amount will be prorated on a quarterly basis. In addition to the dues, there is a $10.00 special assessment for Issues Mobilization. this is an annual assessment which will continue each year until the Issues Mobilization Fund reaches $5 million and is not to be prorated.
New VAR members are also required to remit a new member assessment fee totaling $100.00 in addition to the annual dues and issues mobilization fee. A new member is defined as any individual who has not paid dues to any REALTOR association for the previous calendar year.
*VAR Nondeductible Dues: For 2015, with dues at $110.00 per member, VAR computes 15.2% or $16.72 to be nondeductible for the member’s income tax purposes due to VAR lobbying efforts. Note that the entire VAR Issues Mobilization fee and new member fee qualify as deductible expenses.

National Association of REALTORS Dues
In 2015, NAR dues are $120.00 per member and this amount will be prorated monthly. In addition to the dues, there is still a $35.00 special assessment for the Public Awareness Campaign. The assessment is an annual assessment and will not be prorated. Regardless of when a member joins during the year, they will pay the full $35.00 Assessment.
*NAR Nondeductible Dues: For 2015, with dues at $120.00 per member, NAR Computes 36 percent or $44.00 of NAR dues tobe nondeductible for the member’s income tax purposes due to NAR lobbying and political activities. Please not that the entire $35.00 Public Awareness Campaign special assessment qualifies as fully deductible.
REALTOR Emeritus Members:
A REALTOR® Member who has held membership in the National Association as a REALTOR®, REALTOR-ASSOCIATE®, or both, for a cumulative period of forty (40) years is eligible for REALTOR® Emeritus status.
2015 Change: At the 2013 REALTOR® Conference & Expo, the Delegate Body approved an amendment to Article III, Section 9 of the NAR Constitution, which outlines REALTOR® Emeritus eligibility. Beginning with applications filed in 2015, in addition to the forty (40) years of membership, a REALTOR® Emeritus candidate member must also have completed at least one (1) year of service at the National Association level. However, for applications filed through 2019, the one (1) year service requirement may also be met through service at the state or local level. This provision will sunset at the end of 2019. A Designated REALTOR who is a REALTOR Emeritus is still responsible for assessments of non-member salespersons affiliated with the firm.
Upon approval of an application for REALTOR® Emeritus by the Board of Directors of the National Association of REALTORS®, no further payment of dues to the National Association is necessary by the member association of which the REALTOR® Emeritus is a member. Please note that the dues waiver does not take effect until the dues year immediately following the Board of Directors’ approval. In addition, REALTOR® Emeritus Members are exempt from the Quadrennial Ethics Training requirement.
